Winery Vipava Pinot Gris Lanthieri

The soils in the region of Schloss Vipava in Slovenia play a crucial role in wine production. The clayey soils of these sun-drenched hills provide optimal conditions for growing vines. The diversity in soil composition combined with the Mediterranean influence creates wines with unique minerality and terroir expression. These soils, coupled with the traditional winemaking practices of the estate, contribute to the wines of Schloss Vipava developing their distinctive freshness and expressive character.

In Vipava, the harvest begins with Pinot Gris. The dry and warm August allows it to ripen well and develop a high sugar content. To preserve the aromatic potential and varietal character during ripening, Pinot Gris vineyards are primarily planted in the lower parts of the Vipava Valley, where the nights are cooler and water reserves are slightly higher. During the harvest, we kept the grape berries in contact with the juice to achieve more aromas and a stronger flavor. Fermentation occurred spontaneously, partly in wooden containers and partly in INOX tanks. The wine aged for one year.
