The Grand Cru Sommerberg is known for its steep, south-facing slopes situated on granite and sandy clay soils. These soils are ideal for growing Riesling, as they provide excellent drainage and allow the vines to root deeply, resulting in intense minerality and complexity in the wine. The region's microclimate, influenced by the steep slopes and proximity to the Vosges Mountains, allows for slow and even ripening of the grapes, concentrating the aromas and giving the wine structure.
The Riesling Grand Cru Sommerberg 2021 displays a brilliant straw-yellow color with golden reflections. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied yet fine and precise, with vibrant acidity that provides freshness and ensures the wine’s longevity. The combination of intense fruitiness and pronounced minerality gives this Riesling outstanding balance and depth. It is ideal on its own but also pairs perfectly with dishes like seafood, fish, Asian cuisine, or aged cheese.
The vines for the Riesling Grand Cru Sommerberg 2021 are on average 40 to 60 years old and are deeply rooted in mineral-rich soils. Domaine Albert Boxler manages these historic vineyards according to organic and sustainable principles to preserve the quality of the grapes and the health of the soil. The grapes are hand-harvested, and the wine is traditionally vinified, with fermentation and aging primarily in stainless steel tanks to preserve the freshness and precise fruit aromas of the Riesling.
