Interesting facts about Riesling:
The Fahrlay area is situated right next to the Pünderich ferry dock and is the only part of Pündericher Marienburg where blue slate predominates. Blue slate is notably harder than gray and red slate. In their youth, the vines struggle, only after 15-20 years do their roots penetrate deep into the moist, water-retaining crevices of the slate slabs. Here, even in dry years, they find sufficient water and nutrients to optimally nourish the grapes. Only the finest, healthiest grapes are selected for this "Grosse Gewächs" (Grand Cru). The result is extremely mineral-driven wines that often appear angular and cool in their youth, gradually revealing greater complexity with aging and demonstrating significant aging potential.
Riesling is a premium white wine renowned for its versatility and elegance. It typically presents an aromatic bouquet of fresh citrus fruits like lemon, grapefruit, and green apple, accompanied by floral notes such as jasmine or lilac. On the palate, it is lively and refreshing, with vibrant acidity that accentuates the fruity aromas. A characteristic feature of Riesling is its ability to express terroir and origin, resulting in a broad range of flavors from dry to sweet. Dry Rieslings are crisp and mineral-driven, while sweet Rieslings exhibit an impressive balance between sweetness and acidity. Overall, Riesling is a refreshing and expressive wine that pairs well with a variety of dishes and ranks among the finest white wines in the world.
The vineyards of Clemens Busch Estate are among the steepest and most prestigious along the Mosel river. The terraced vineyards provide optimal conditions for growing Riesling. The expressive soils, characterized by slate, impart a unique minerality and finesse to the grapes. The meticulous care of the vineyards and the focus on biodynamic viticulture underscore Clemens Busch's commitment to sustainable practices. The result is wines of exceptional quality and terroir expression, representing the Mosel wine tradition in an impressive manner.
